Generally, these are the elements I think make up a GREAT children’s author or illustrator website:
1. The Site is colorful.
2. The information on the site is easy to read.
3. The site is updated regularly - so I find new material each time I visit.
4. The site includes a blog or links to a blog.
5. The author’s or illustrator’s contact information is easy to find.
6. The site includes different types of media - written articles, illustrations and photographs, an audio clip or two, and maybe even a video (like a book trailer)
7. The site includes something for kids to do - activity pages, puzzles, coloring pages, etc.
8. The site includes teacher guides or lesson plans that go with the author’s books.
9. The site includes links to purchase the author’s or illustrator’s books.
10. The site includes a recent photo of the author or illustrator.
